Buchanan General Hospital has provided high-quality medical care to the people of Buchanan County and the surrounding counties in Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia. The 111-bed hospital is staffed with skilled physicians of various specialties, and employs over 300 dedicated support staff.

Cardiopulmonary Services

The Cardiopulmonary Services Department offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that are related to the heart and lungs.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Cardiology (EKG, EEG, ECHO, Stress Test Nuclear Medicine)


Services Provided:

Respiratory Therapy (RT)
Therapeutic RT services include: Medication delivery via nebulizer, chest physiotherapy and airway clearance, volumetric lung therapy, non-invasive ventillatory support (BIPAP), mechanical ventilation, and oxygen therapy.



Diagnostic RT services include: Pulmonary function testing, arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, and peak expiratory flow rates.

Electrocardiograms (EKG)
EKG Services include: 12 lead electrocardiograms, and 24 or 48 hour cardiac monitoring.

Cardiovascular Stress Testing
Stress testing services include: Cardiolite injected, Exercise Treadmill, and Pharmacological Stress testing.

Echocardiograms(ECHO)
ECHO services include: resting echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and contrast echocardiograms.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Phase II outpatient cardiac rehabilitation

Sleep Study
Sleep Study services include: diagnostic polysomnograms, and polysomnograms with positive airway pressure titration

Electroencephalography (EEG)
EEG services include: Electroencephalograms while awake, or when sleep deprived
