Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Virginia is a modern, well equipped, 134 bed acute care facility, located in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia. The facility is a not-for-profit, stand alone hospital, governed by a local board of directors. BGH is the only hospital in Buchanan County, with the nearest competitor located about forty miles away. The primary market area census is 25,000, with an additional 20,000 in the secondary market. The hospital owns two modern on campus medical office buildings, as well as two off campus clinic offices. One of the on campus buildings just opened in 2010.
The surgical suite includes two operating rooms, one endoscopy room, and one bronchoscope room. The staff is well trained, surgical equipment is state of the art including new LED lighting in the operating rooms.
The Hospitals diagnostic imaging department has a 64 slice CT scanner with PACS viewing available in the physician offices, mobile MRI three days per week, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography, x-ray, and bone density.
The current medical staff includes five internal medicine, two family medicine, two pediatricians, one Pulmonologist, two General Surgeons one
Anesthesiologist and one CRNA, three part-time Diagnostic Cardiologists, one part time Otolaryngologist, and one part time Pathologist.
Grundy, the seat of Buchanan County, VA is a diversified and somewhat rural community. It is the home of the fully accredited Appalachian College of Pharmacy, and Appalachian School of Law.
